Medical Electronics

Profile

Medical Electronics Engineering was established in 2007 with a sanctioned intake of 120.

Electronics and Computer Systems have influenced the field of medicine. Many diseases can only be diagnosed and treated with the application of these systems. The need for expertise to design and develop such devices were felt and department of medical electronics was started.

A medical electronics engineer can be called as the doctor of the equipments without which a doctor, a surgeon or a multi specialty hospital is helpless. Medical Electronics engineers are the one who design devices and measures that solve medical and health-related problems by combining their knowledge of biology and medicine with engineering principles and practices.

Many do research, along with life scientists, chemists, and medical scientists, to develop and evaluate systems and products such as artificial organs, instrumentation, medical information systems, health management and care delivery systems.

Medical Electronics engineers also design devices used in various medical procedures, imaging systems such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and devices for automating insulin injections or controlling body functions. Some specialties within Medical Electronics Engineering include biomaterials, biomechanics, Medical Imaging, Rehabilitation Engineering, and Orthopedic Engineering.

Medical Electronics Engineering Technology appeals to students desiring to be technical, and, at the same time, devote their careers for saving lives by helping doctors, nurses and hospital patients. To advance in these careers, it is also important to develop skills in communicating problems, ideas and solutions to other employees. This program will develop trouble-shooting skills in analog circuits, digital circuits, and processors. In addition, they must understand Physiology, Medical Terminology and the operation of Medical instruments such as EKG instruments, defibrillators, incubators etc.

Since Medical Electronics is a branch framing a bridge between Electronics and Medicine we have also included major Electronics and communication papers like Electronics circuits, Instrumentation, Measuring Techniques, Digital Electronics, Linear Integrated Circuits, Microprocessor, Signals and Systems, Control System, Microcontroller, Digital Signal Processing, Digital Image Processing, Neural Networks, Embedded System.
